Interning with the New York Islanders Organization is an experience unlike any other. Interns learn the inner workings of how a successful professional sports organization works.
The Islanders believe that interns are part of the foundation of any successful organization. The Islanders are searching for prospective employees that would like an opportunity in the ever-competitive sports industry. As part of Islanders University, interns will experience the thrill of closing a sale, the importance of serving as an ambassador for the team in the community and the excitement of designing some of the most cutting edge merchandise seen around the league.
An intern should generally expect to work from 20-30 hours each week (days and hours can be flexible based on school schedules) and these hours would include working most events, and game nights. All intern positions call for general administrative work including, but not limited to: Maintaining and organizing files, data entry, copying, filing and faxing.
For the duration of this internship, interns will be responsible for assisting our accounting staff with multiple tasks. These tasks include general office administration duties, journal entries, counting and keeping track of cash and check, and assisting in the accounting of our American Hockey League affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Interns may also have to attend New York Islanders events such as Casino Night, and New York Islanders Children’s Foundation events.
Interns must possess strong organizational and communication (both oral and written) skills. Interns must be proficient in Microsoft Office and internet navigation. Interns also must have the ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative, in addition to being able to handle multiple tasks and prioritize. A professional attitude will be expected.
